June 2015 - Girl Scouts Earn Animal Care Merit Badge at O'Malley PET - Are you a Girl Scout looking for a place to earn your Animal care Merit Badge? Give us a call at 556-2754 to set it up. We had some Girl Scouts come through in June, and we are happy to help.

6-12-15 - Docling Fatima Escobedo Graduates from Veterinary School - That's what we call the vet students that come to spend time with us during their final year in vet school -- Our Dear Doclings. Fatima was our 5th Docling and we enjoyed her tremendously. We are Oh so very proud of her accomplishments. Congratulations Dr. Escobedo!

6-9-15 - Misty Mandujano makes the Daily Sentinel - OMPET Veterinary Assistant Misty Mandujano got a Shout Out for good work this week. She often goes above an beyond, but this "thank you" was for picking up and delivering patients owned by someone who does not have transportation. Thank you Misty!

May 2015 - Erin Childress's SFA Biology Class Comes to our Rescue Again! - SFA Students from this class donate needed supplies to OMPET twice a year, and it saves us thousands. This year, they blessed us with paper towels and other cleaning supplies, batteries, blankets, pet food, collars and much more. Thank you, thank you.

Dr. Rosalie Cooper-Chase joins OMPET as a Guest Surgeon - Dr. Cooper-Chase owned a practice in Crockett for many years, and recently sold that practice to retire and to do Mission Work. She is headed for a mission trip in the Navajo Nation in Arizona next week, at trip she has made several times in recent years. She wanted to join us to brush up on spay-neuter so she will be back in the saddle when she makes her way out west next week. We really enjoyed her visit, and she was a great help to complete our surgeries in record time! From Dr. C-C, "I had a really good day. Thank you for having me over, feeding me so well, and trusting me... You have a great crew of which you should be proud. I would be honored to come over again to speuter with you." Thanks Dr. Cooper-Chase! We hope you come back soon!

Raising Cane's sponsors lunch for the O'Malley PET Staff on 5-28-15 - Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers has supported our volunteers for lunch many times over the past 5 years. Their Manager Alan made it happen, on short notice. Thank you!!

5-9-15 - OMPET 2nd Annual Plant Sale - Fauna Queen Brenda Hayter spent another year in the greenhouse preparing hundreds of plants for our 2015 OMPET Plant Sale. Hannah Bryant's Lemonade Stand and Sissy Foster's Scrumptious Brisket Sandwiches have become an annual tradition. Special thanks to Pam Cunningham for providing the Best Lemonade Stand in Nacogdoches History! Thanks to Maggie Forbes for donation worm bins for us to sell. And thanks again to Andrea Schroeder for the stunning planter that Nancy Hinds auctioned off for a nice donation. Among other things, we had Thai giant elephant ears, regular elephant ears, Cannas different varieties, native wisteria, Chinese wisteria, golden rain tree, paper shell pecan trees, bald cypress trees, red buckeye trees, blackberry lilies, parrot lilies, angel trumpets, giant blue bamboo, Turk's cap, Mexican hats, sky blue asters, native grapes, 4 o'clocks, umbrella grass, chives, tomatoes, mimosa trees, blue crown passion vine, Confederate Rose hibiscus, button bush, redbud trees, yellow water iris, blue flag iris, winter jasmine, lemon balm, organic seeds and much more! We raised about a thousand dollars for O'Malley PET!

4-25-15 - Nacogdoches Newcomers and Friends hosted a Spring Lunch and Style Show to benefit local charities. In the past the luncheon raised funds for CASA, HOPE, Harvest House, Hospice of East Texas, LOVE, Inc., O’Malley PET, School Clothing Fund, Senior Center Meals on Wheels and Solid Foundation. The lunch was 11 am to 1:30 pm. at North Street Church of Christ. Newcomers hosted two fashion shows, and served good food, with music and door prizes. The affair was adorned with tablescape décor, every table decorated with a different setting. See photo on the slide show of OMPET Vet Tech Jennifer Bryant accepting the donation check from Newcomer Anne Murray.

4-25-15 - OMPET Medical Director Dr. Wendy Blount Speaks at Texas Unites for Animals! - The 2015 Texas Unites! conference was attended by a record breaking 500 members of the animal welfare community. The first ever Vet Track for Shelter Veterinarians was held on Saturday, providing 8 hours of continuing education for attendees. The subject of the panel discussion was legal dilemmas and pending legislation, entitled, Texas Shelter Medicine: Darned if You Do, Darned if You Don't. The panel was put together by the Shelter Medicine Committee of the TVMA (Texas Veterinary Medical Association), in response to recent changes in regulation of shelter medicine by the veterinary licensing Board (TSBVME - Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners), and the more than ten shelter medicine bills that have been filed this year during the 84th Texas Legislative Session. The panel discussion was coordinated by Dr. Kent Glenn (shelter vet, Weatherford TX) and Dr. Tamra Walthall (shelter vet Waco, TX), who also served as panelists. Shelter vet Dr. Shawn Ashley (Humane Society of North Texas) served as moderator. Dr. Wendy Blount and TVMA Executive Director and Interim General Counsel Chris Copeland also served as panelists. TVMA General Counsel and members of the TVMA Shelter Medicine Committee have made numerous trips to Capitol Hill in Austin to testify for and against various shelter medicine bills this year.

4-3-15 - Andrea Schroeder Donates Planter for 2015 Plant Sale - It's gorgeous, isn't it? This beauty was auctioned off at the 2015 Plant Sale and fetched a sweet donation for O'Malley PET. Thanks Andrea!!
