O'Malley PET (Preventing Euthanasia Together), is a
project of the The O'Malley Alley Cat
Organization. O'Malley PET provides low cost or no cost spay and neuter services to citizens of
Nacogdoches County who demonstrate financial need. We also provide surgical services to free roaming
cats residing in Nacogdoches County, and animals residing in Nacogdoches County that are owned by bona
fide animal shelters and 501(c)3 rescues.
We are an organization run largely by volunteer labor, so please be patient with us :). Expect to leave a message when you call. Calls received
Monday through Wednesday will usually be answered by Friday. Calls received Thursday through Sunday may not be answered until the next week. If you do no hear
back from us within 2 business days or according to the above schedule, please leave us another message. We try, but can not always answer messages the same day.
We are *very busy* on surgery days (click here for the surgery schedule on the home page) which always fall on a Thursday, so we rarely
answer any calls except those relating to appointments that day on surgery days.
Cats are usually dropped off the afternoon before surgery, on Wednesday between 4-6pm. Expect to pick them up at the end of the day after surgery between
4pm and 5pm. Ferals trapped for surgery and outdoor cats and dogs that do not have a safe place indoors to stay on the evening after surgery may need to stay at O'Malley
House the night after surgery. These patients are monitored throughout the evening, and Dr. Blount is called in if there is any need
for extra care. Arrangements will be made on a case by case basis to meet you on the Friday after surgery to take these patients home. Dogs are dropped off for
surgery between 8 and 9am on the day of surgery, and most will go home between 4pm and 5pm that day. Occasionally, dogs or cats that we expect to go home on the afternoon
after surgery will not be sufficiently recovered to go home. They will need to stay overnight, and we will make arrangement to meet you for their release the
following day if they need to stay longer. Remember that pets having surgery on Thursday should have no food after dinner time on Wednesday night. There is no
need to withhold access to water -- we will take up the water the morning before surgery. We do not want patients to be dehydrated when they have surgery. We
will offer overnight patients food and water as soon as they are sufficiently recovered.
We almost never have post-op emergencies, but we realize anything can happen, and Dr. Blount always carries the phone on the night after
surgery and until sometime during the afternoon the next day (Friday). Again, leave a message when you call if you have any questions about or problems with
your pet who had surgery. During the day of and after surgery, your call should be answered within 10 minutes. If not, please call and leave another message --
Dr. Blount might be on another call. We cover all costs of post-op care, no matter how major or minor. If a post-op question
arises or problem occurs more than 24 hours after surgery, we still have help available. While Dr. Blount does not carry the phone during this time, we do have
someone monitoring the phone at all other times, and we will get a message to Dr. Blount ASAP. If there is a problem or concern that needs attention that is not
an emergency, feel free to call Dr. Blount directly at Eastex Vet Clinic on Mondays and Wednesdays at (936) 560-1530. You can either leave a message if you just
need a phone call, or make an appointment there for post-op care. If for some reason Dr. Blount is not available or booked up with no slots available, feel free
to see either Dr. Garner at Southside Animal Clinic (936) 564-4422 or one of the other doctors at Eastex Vet Clinic (Drs. Richards, Weatherly or Acuna)
at (936) 560-1530 and
OMPET will cover costs of care. If you do this, please, call us at (936) 556-2754 to make arrangements to have us billed for services. If there are any questions
about whether billing is approved, please direct staff at those clinic to this web page for explanation of approval for billing. If you have a regular vet, and
want to see your vet for post-op care, that is fine. Just have them contact us to make arrangements for payment, by e-mail at email@example.com or phone at (936) 556-2754.
